Section 2- General Technical Rules 2009-2010 (These apply to all OCC Classes) These are the complete official Ohio Challenge Cup OCC Rules that apply to all OCC Classes. In the case of a discrepancy between these General Rules and an individual Class Spec Sheet, or any other information, these General Rules apply.
1.0 Objective of the Series: To Maintain a set of rules for all Racers to follow which is equal for all racers.
2.0 Technical Director ruling on any matter applies over these or any other Rules. The Technical Director may allow, at his sole discretion, a car to race one grace event, after notifying the Member of the needed change.
3.0 Commercially-available: all products (except controllers, paint, decals) used in the TRRS Series must be available from three Slot Car Raceways at the time of the event.
4.0 Controllers: No controller may have power from batteries, or any source but the track. Controllers may be home-made, provided that they meet the requirements of the individual Class, as stated in the Rules for that Class.
5.0 Body Rules
6.0 Goal of the Series: Preference will be given to cars, rules, and bodies that most closely resemble 1:1 race cars.
7.0 Bodies: Specific bodies are approved for each OCC Class. These are published on the Rules, and in individual Class Spec Sheets for each specific Class. - 7.1 New bodies and equipment: As new bodies and other equipment are introduced, the Series directors will evaluate their "fit" to the Series; if they are acceptable, an announcement will be made at the race after such part is approved, and the new product will be approved starting at the following OCC events.
- 7.2 No air control of any type may be added to any body, unless specifically allowed for a given body or Class.
- 7.2.1 Diaplanes molded into the body may be retained.
- 7.2.2 May add a mylar/lexan diaplane for front reinforcement in any Class.
- 7.2.3 Added-on diaplane may NOT protrude from the body.
- 7.3 Bodies must cover entire chassis when viewed from above; top of the body (hood, fenders, etc.) may not be cut out for motor, chassis, gear or guide clearance. Any cut-outs must be the same as on the 1:1 car.
- 7.4 May reinforce body with self-adhesive lexan, mylar, glue, and/or tape.
- 7.5 Paint and decoration: all cars must be painted, opaque, including sides. If chassis, or other components can be seen through the body, the Tech Director has the right to refuse to allow it to race.
- 7.5.1 Racing Numbers: Bodies must have a minimum of three 1/4" minimum high racing numbers must be painted, decal or sticker (no marker numbers).
- 7.5.2 "Sponsor" markings, stickers and decals: In all Classes, at least one major sponsor decal, or sticker is required. Must be painted, decal or sticker (no marker numbers). This decal or sticker must be at least half the width of the rear wing in size (approximately 1-1/2"), although it can be mounted anywhere on the car.
- 7.5.3 No obscene or offensive graphics (in the opinion of the Technical Director) may be used on any car; in the event of such graphics, the Technical Director will refuse to allow the car on the track.
- 7.5.4 Front wheels visible: the front wheels must be visible either by
- 7.5.4.1 the body having been cut out to the wheel vertical centerline, or
- 7.5.4.2 by the body having been left clear showing at least 50% of the diameter of the front wheel(s).
- 7.6 Guide flag hidden: the guide flag must be under the car so as to not be visible viewed from the top of the car.
- 7.7 Windows left clear: on all "coupe" and sedan bodies, the windshield and side windows must be left clear. This also prohibits "tinted" windshields and side "glass". On GT-1 bodies.
- 7.8 Driver figures: all bodies must have a painted and detailed, using paint and/or markers, 1/24th scale 3-D driver figure, with a head w/helmet, arms, shoulders, and a steering wheel in the normal position in the car. Driver figures molded into body must be painted, and detailed using paint and/or markers. No paper drivers in any Class. Driver figure and interior must block view of the chassis when viewed from above.
8.0 Chassis Rules - 8.1 Chassis permitted (all Classes):
- 8.1.1 any commercially available (see 3.0) production stamped metal chassis is permitted.
- 8.1.2 Production aluminum or lightweight steel chassis pans- available from the original manufacturer (only)- may also be used.
- 8.1.3 As new chassis`s are introduced, OCC will determine the date at which the "commercially available" Rule is met, and make an announcement that the new chassis is now approved. This will be at a OCC Race.
- 8.1.4 You may not "mix" brands of chassis parts. "Chassis parts" are defined as the center section and pan(s).
- 8.2 Clearance:
- 8.2.1 Rear clearance is checked as follows: If the tech plate (or other gage) placed flat under the chassis at the rear axle, MOVES the car, it is too low, and must be reset and re- presented for Tech before racing. This applies under the gear as well as the rear of the chassis.
- 8.2.2 In the event of an in-race tech, car must have a minimum .055" clearance under the rear of the chassis, AND a minimum rear tire diameter of .750.
- 8.2.3 Front clearance: with the car on the tech plate all parts of the chassis must have clearance from the tech plate, in the opinion of the Tech Director. In addition, any car that the Tech Director feels might damage the track surface will not be allowed to race, or will be "black flagged" during the race.
- 8.2.4 Minimum rear tire diameter is .750" at all times, for all Classes. Maximum tire Diameter for GT 1 is .812(13/16) all other classes are open on maximum. No jigging of axle height to circumvent the clearance rule allowed. This is a fixed gear ratio class and not to be played with by tire diameter.
- 8.2.5 Width: the 3-1/4" tech gage must slide over the rear tires and wheels, and not be tight enough so as to support the weight of the car.
- 8.3 Chassis modifications: A " Modification" is defined an any change or addition requiring cutting, grinding, gluing, fastening using screws, or soldering, or the addition of any component other than as specifically permitted in the Rules.
- 8.3.1 No cutting, bracing or grinding of the chassis is permitted, except as specifically allowed here.
- 8.3.2 May file or grind motor mount for better mesh, but must retain motor mount. (JK Cheetah 7&11s must be left stock)
- 8.3.3 May grind off plating only where/when soldering is intended.
- 8.3.4 May add floating or fixed pin tubes in all Classes.
- 8.3.5 May solder front axle, but front wheels must rotate on their axle.
- 8.3.6 May use "light" pans, of aluminum or steel from the same manufacturer as the center pan; must assemble with no chassis modification to be legal.
- 8.3.7 May tape chassis, or tape or solder lead weight to chassis to affect handling.
- 8.3.8 Bracing:
- 8.3.8.1 May add one "c" shaped (max. .062"diameter), piano wire rear chassis upright brace, or add the Slick 7 EDM Chassis Upright Brace.
- 8.3.8.2 May add a max. 1" long (max. .062") piano wire motor brace. If using a motor brace, motor must be soldered to the brace.
- 8.3.8.3 The front axle may not be soldered to the center of the chassis as a brace.
- 8.3.8.4 NO OTHER BRACING OR CHASSIS MODIFICATIONS ARE PERMITTED
- 8.4 NO Bearings: oilite or bronze bushings in the motor and rear axle only.
- 8.5 Any other chassis modification is illegal.
9.0 Tires and wheels:
- 9.1 Rear Tires: black, minimum .750 diameter max diameter GT 1 .812(13/16) other classes open max diameter, max. width .810".
- 9.2 Front wheels and tires: must use 2-piece (separate hub and tire) front wheels of a minimum .600" diameter, with black rubber or plastic front tires - required on all Classes.
10.0 Replacing Parts during a race: cars must finish with the original chassis parts and body. Any other part may be replaced , with another part meeting OCC Rules for the Class, during a race.
